                                                               Book Review

                                                             “Seeking Sprits”
by Jason Hawes, Grant Wilson and Michael Friedman

If you are a fan of GH you will like this book. It’s filled with many good ghost stories and also some stories about the more weird and insane clients TAPS has dealt with. Demonic possession in children, doppelgangers, schizophrenics, how they came to know Kristyn Garland, the residual haunting by a living person, squirrels in the walls and many more.

Aside from the easy reading and entertaining stories Jay and Grant offer up some great investigation tips”  I both quote and paraphrase below:.

“If you set out to prove a haunting, anything will seem like evidence. If you set up to disprove it, you’ll end up with only those things you can’t explain away”

“Don’t allow the client to become part of the investigation-you work for the client, the client is not your partner. Keep them as far away from the investigation as possible. Never leave them alone with your equipment. Don’t let them in on team discussions”

Ghost hunting is not a democracy. Somebody is the leader, and everyone else has their assignment per their talents and interests. Don’t argue about any of this stuff in front of the client, ever.

Take control pictures. These are just the photos of the property before the investigation them, and then when something paranormal shows up on the same roll of film or set of photos, you can make a comparison.

Do your background, historical and property research after the investigation. This way your mind will be free and clear of any preconceived notions of what you might find or hope to find.(or have your researcher keep it to themselves till after the investigation is over). “However, always check out the client themselves first, that way you can judge of the problem is with the property or it’s in the person mind.”

Orbs- a sure fire way to tell if it’s a reflection or lens flare: “use adobe photos shop, take the image, run the gamma to its maximum, and look at the orbs gamma signature. If it’s a reflection from an object in the picture it will have the same gamma signature as the orb.”
Dust –looks like a cell with a nucleus inside, and is often a perfect circle with out a border.
Moisture-they are angular on the sides, they fade from one side to another….
Real orbs- rule out all the usual causes then examine it very closely:
“It s solid, it emits its own light; it looks like a “ping pong” ball that’s in movement. Sometimes it has a tail of light trailing it, a sign of movement. “That’s a real orb.

Exorcisms, yes TAPS has investigated these and been present while qualified clergy carries out the ritual.
“Humans cannot destroy a demon….but clergy can expel them…..but there is a price to pay. When you work on a possession case, the demon you are working against knows who you are. If you encounter him second time he will know you, they all know you.”

I was able to read this book in about 2 hours, and it was fun. If you’re a fan, I’d recommend it for your paranormal library.
