I have been thinking (I know bad habit Bop Clubat) about what cats and dogs see that we don't. Animals in general seem to perceive spirits better than humans do.

Cats and Dogs see or sense paranormal activity that we as people do not. Why is this?
They see less color than we do.
They hear better, they see movement better than we do.
Cats see better than dogs, but dogs see further than cats.
The colors they see in from purple to brown. They have a better gray scale than we do.
They smell things better than we do. And They see better at night than we do.
Cats and Dogs do not see in the inferred spectrum, and as far as anybody can tell they cant see much it ultraviolet spectrum.
Cats have a gland in their mouth that allows them to taste the air. Dogs do not have this gland, but they have much better smell preceptors. So that can't be the answer.

So again what is it that makes the perceive spirits better than we do?

They both have strobe vision. So they see movement much better than we do. And what does this mean? Well, if a cat or dog is watching TV they see each frame of the picture as I picture each while you see about 5 to 10 frames before you detect movement. TV is 60 cycles per second so they see each of the sixty frames per second. IS this the answer? Should we be using Strobe lights? Should we be taking Strobe photography?

I think its something to try and see what the results will be.

Or is it a combination of things, do cats and dogs have a sixth sense we know nothing about?

I am open to input from everybody on this subject.

Kudos on the thought provoking ,Boss Man! Let me take a stab at it.

First is the animal question and 6 senses. I've been up and down on this question for years. Sometimes I think its a sixth sense & some times no. But when I really ponder it, I begin to think that there is no magical sixth sense. That the answer lies within the frequency ranges of the standard 5; namely though visual and auditory.
It is very true that animals see and hear at a lot greater frequency range than man. And it is because of this that animals seem to always sense the paranormal. Some say ghosts, being of a purely energetic form, exist at a higher frequency. I tend to agree. And because of an animals perception of said frequencies, they sense those ghosts.
So why does man not seem to sense these things? Well, that's the beauty of evolution. If something is not needed for survival of an organism, nature does not use it. And as modern man, we have no need for high frequency "super senses", so they are switched off.
That does not mean that the ability is not there. Ever notice when people talk about car crashes they always describe everything in slow motion. That is what I'm talking about. The brain is tapping into it's animistic senses to insure it's survival. And I could fill page after page with other examples of this.
That brings me to your strobe light. It has been said in research circles that a strobe does increase paranormal activity. This is partially correct. What's happening in my opinion is that when you are in the presence of a strobe light that is flashing at a frequency higher than is normally perceivable to us, it is forcing our brain into survival mode to be able to see our surroundings. Thus, since our brain is receiving optical images at a higher rate, we are able to see the paranormal also.
I think it would be a great idea to experiment with a strobe at future investigations. It may take a while to hit the right cycle pattern, but once we do, think of the possabilities!

 That's just my opinion anyway.

I think maybe it is just a question of perceptiveness.  Children also have the ability to percieve spirits than adults.  However as children grow older they are so often told that it is just their imagination.  As a consequence people become jaded to the thought of sensing the paranormal.  Animals do not have the ability to become jaded because "it's just their imagination."  They see or sense something and they react.

Hello Shanda ,Nice to meet you. I'm Daniel by the way.
Children do have the ability to sense things, and I think their being told "it's your imagination" is partially to blame for them losing that ability. However I also think it has to do with the lack of need for the ability as adolescence wears on.

Think of it like this; if you take a cat or dog or bird and raise it completely indoors domestically from the time it's weaned and then try to get it to revert to the wild as an adult, it will usually fail. This is because it's natural senses, in not being used for so long, have embedded themselves in all but in-accessable recesses of the animals psyche. However if the animal is in a life or death situation, those instincts will come back.
We as humans, although we try so hard to fight it, are still animals. And like our cousins, when we become domesticated, we lose our abilities until survival dictates that we find them again.

Hi,
I'm Dixie and I think you have a lot of the problem right there. My Mother had a visit from her dead sister when she was around seventeen or so. My Aunt told her that my Uncle would be in a car crash if he went to CA. Mom being scared to tell anyone just watched my Uncle take off for the west coast. After two weeks she thought maybe the ghost had been a dream. But on the way back from CA Uncle Bob picked up a nice guy that needed a ride. They got along great! Uncle Bob got tired and let the other guy drive...They crashed and the other guy died, Uncle Bob had a lot of injuries to his face chest and sholders. This was before safty glass. He recovered but his face was badly scared for the rest of his life. Mom still talks about it but wishes now she had taken the chance and talked to Uncle Bob or someone.
We get so caught up in the fact that folks will think us loopy or something that we hide from what is for some an everyday thing.
Like when I was living in Germany in 1974, my Grandmother went also, but she had died when I was nine years old. To keep my husband from thinking I was nuts I (worse thing I ever did in my life) Told Grandma that I was fine and married to a great guy and she did not need to watch over me any more. I will always regret that! I devorced that man thirteen years later, but Grandma won't come back, she says I don't need her so she will stay with Grandpa. I can't seem to make her see that time and circumstances  have changed. Now if folks think I'm loopy ... oh well.

Excatly you have to be open and receptive to the idea, not just brush it off as imagination or you do lose the ability.  My grandmother passed away a little over a year befor my daughter was born.  However my daughter was born on her birthday.  She tells me constantly that she talks to my grandmother.  Instead of telling her it is her imagination I encourage her to tell me about it.  She also tells me adamately that she is an animal whisper.  I know that she loves animals and some of it may be her imagination but I listen to what she has to say and try not to take that ability away from her if she really can communicate with animals.  Some times its hard to fiqure out.  That's just one of life's mysteries.
